People benefit from being able to afford housing within their community.
How we measure it
The average house price within the community on all residential properties sold over the previous three years, divided by the average household income of the community. A larger score demonstrates ‘less affordability’.
(Land Registry, ONS Income Estimates)
Higher counts of people per room suggest overcrowding and a shortage of suitably sized accommodation.
How we measure it:
Proportion of households within the community that have more than one person per room.
(Census 2011, ONS)
Green space encourages leisure activities and a sense of wellbeing.
How we measure it:
Proportion of the local land area given over to public green spaces.
(Ordnance Survey, Geolytix Physical Geography pack)
Spaces open to all are important in bringing people together.
How we measure it -
Distance is measured from the outer boundary of the locale to the nearest public spaces, with a value of 0 if contained within the community
(Ordnance Survey, Geolytix Physical Geography pack)
Noise and air pollution have negative implications for wellbeing.
How we measure it -
The maximum count of both HGV and total traffic going through the community. High counts of traffic will result in higher levels of pollution.
(Office for Transport)
Poor air quality can lead to health problems.
How we measure it -
The count of Nitrogen Dioxide (NO2), Sulphur Dioxide (SO2) and Particulate Matter (PM10) within the air.
